I Want to Help You Remember ...

When a loved one passes, our hearts break , and
thoughts and reminders of our lives together are everywhere we look.
We sit in their favorite chair. We bring out their clothing, burying our faces
and tears in the folds. We long to have just a few more minutes with our
best friend. It seems as though time has stopped, and we can not imagine life without the one we loved without regret.

There will come a time to move forward— to remember the times we have shared and To Remember Them By ... can help you transition, by remembering your loved one in a very special way.

When my father passed away in 2007, my mother was heartbroken. He was her best friend. Every belonging of my father’s brought back a bittersweet memory— his razor, his toothbrush, his chair, his clothing.

Over time, she began the process of sorting through the belongings and the memories. Many items were passed on to charity; many were given to other loved ones.

Some things will always stay in the place that my Father left them.

His clothing was the most difficult of his things to part with. They had the essence of my dad still lingering. It reminded her of the way he looked in a particular shirt., the aftershave he wore, and the memory of how he spent his last days with her.

To help Mom as she grieved her great loss, I took Dad’s favorite shirts and made them into a blanket. Now, the memory of him covers my mother every night while she sleeps.

A loving memorial can be sewn from dresses, shirts, gowns, pajamas - any item of clothing you would like to preserve in a functional form. I have made teddy bears from a beloved mother’s bathrobe, and throw pillows from the neckties of a friend’s father. A favorite garment can become a treasured Bible cover. Whatever form you would like for your memorial to take, we can discuss, and then create it, into a family treasure for the generations to come.
